A recent study conducted by one of the country’s largest loaning company for students, Sallie Mae, they found out that college student use about 4 credit cards to pay for whatever that is that they purchase. In study, it showed that a lot of college students are now facing financial charges since they could not afford to pay their monthly financial burden on time. According to the study, the median amount of students’ debts has increased in about 3 percent in only a span of 5 years. Also found in the study that college students nowadays have had debts that was once $373 and is now $939.
Among the many reasons why college students have become suddenly buried in debt is that because credit cards have become more accessible. They have discovered that it is easier to pay for every small things with their credit cards and so most college student have now become busy trying to find ways to pay for their debts instead of looking for ways on how to lift their grades and class standings. In a study conducted 3 years ago, in 2007, they found out that every student ranging from ages 18 to 24 who pays using their debit card for items which only costs $1 when paid with cash is bound to pay $3 every time their card is being swiped.
So, the government has been encouraging students, especially college students to not overuse or abuse their credit or debit cards. These cards may be as accessible and a very easy way of purchasing items or asking for services, however, credit and debit card use have become less convenient and has made every purchase you make expensive, even though it only costs a dollar or two. Credit card debts at this early an age would make your credit report look bad. So, every student, even adults, are asked by the government to just please do not keep using your credit and debit cards, especially now that the country’s facing an unstable economic crisis.
The government has also asked students to not just keep signing terms and conditions that they do not understand. There are some credit card companies who are very much abusive especially when they know that their consumer is not one who knows a lot about credit cad terms and conditions that they would make students sign for credit cards that seem to have a low interest rate but then they would charge you with a lot of fees and other charges.
If ever, you. As a student, already have debts, make sure to meet your monthly dues so you could avoid any financial charges, any additional fees on your debts, and you could avoid building up a bad credit report and history.
